In March 2014, President Obama asked the Department of Labor (DOL) to modernize the regulations governing overtime exemptions to expand the number of employees who receive overtime. The proposed regulations will modify the exemptions for executive, professional, and administrative employees. The salary basis test of $455/week is expected to be increased and the duties test will also be revised. DOL originally planned to release its proposed regulations in fall 2014 and then moved the date back to February 2015. In March, the Department announced it will not be releasing its proposed regulations until later this spring.
