The International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) established an HR 2020 taskforce to determine trends that will impact the challenges and opportunities facing public sector human resources professionals. The taskforce identified five focus areas – Leadership, Culture, Talent, Communications, and Technology. These focus areas are viewed through three critical lenses – Business Acumen, Innovation, and Strategic Orientation.
The leadership section of this report encourages today’s professional to begin a shift in perspective from the transactional to the transformational. The term “leadership” often evokes connotations of great and historic deeds. Ronald Reagan saying, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall,” or Nelson Mandela being imprisoned for his fight to end apartheid. However, true leadership seldom consists of headline-worthy feats. This talk will explore the idea of everyday leadership: small, but powerful, steps that lead to big results.
The focus on these transformational behaviors will create moments of authentic leadership that will guide valuable change within an organization.
