Maintaining and managing a benefits package that is both robust and frugal is a challenge that burdens communities of all sizes.  Human Resource professionals are looking for ways to control benefits costs while remaining competitive in recruiting top talent, improving retention and employee satisfaction, and limiting excessive out-of-pocket expenses for employees.  Sky-rocketing healthcare premiums, funding retirement plans and administrative overhead present considerable challenges to containing benefit costs.  In this workshop, IPMA-HR leaders will learn about innovative strategies to reduce expenses associated with benefits and actionable paths to implementation.  The solutions will help members to take decisive action to solving for common challenges in controlling benefits costs while maintaining critical transparency to the communities they serve.

Learning objectives include:

  • Understanding cost containment strategies, including:
    • Cost sharing: altering benefit programs to shift a larger portion of the expense to employees.
    • Governance: assessing and redesigning benefit plans to ensure diligent use of budget dollars dedicated to benefit expenses.
    • Optimization: ensuring employees are consistently provided the education needed to make the best decisions and take advantage of the benefits offered.
  • Actionable paths for implementing cost containment strategies.

The solutions will help members to take decisive action to solving for common challenges in controlling benefits costs while maintaining critical transparency to the communities they serve.
