The Human Resources Manager is responsible to plan, direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate human resources functions and activities in various assigned areas in the Human Resources Department such as employee relations, labor relations, discipline, recruitment, selection, classification, compensation, benefits, training, employee development, payroll, and personnel actions; to coordinate assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Five years of professional personnel management experience, including two years of management and supervisory responsibility. Experience in a public agency is highly desirable.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public or business administration, human resources management, industrial/organization psychology, or a closely related field.
A Master's degree in one of the majors above is desirable. Certification from CALPELRA, SHRM, HRCI and/or IPMA-HR is desirable.
License or Certificate:
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid California driver's license.
