Job Description: 

The City of Tacoma Human Resources Department seeks an experienced HR Manager to coordinate, administer, and manage a broad range of centralized functions and support activities for the City of Tacoma in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager at Tacoma Public Utilities. As a member of the Human Resources Director's management team, this position has a responsibility to:
•Administer and deliver city-wide operations of the Personnel Services division, supervising and evaluating assigned personnel and establishing and overseeing division policies and programs.
•Direct the operations and implementation of human resource activities, including recruitment, selection and hiring and outreach processes; interpretation of personnel and compensation rules, the development of city-wide internal policies and procedures, and the management of city-wide personnel files and records.
•Advise managers and supervisors on corrective and disciplinary actions and employee performance management; develop and provide training and information to managers and supervisors on best practices in HR management; assist in the oversight of employee recognition programs; provide guidance and direction on organizational development initiatives, and align goals and objectives by participating as a member of the Human Resources Department management team.

Job Requirements (Optional): 

The most competitive applicants will have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in public administration, human resource management, or a closely related field and have 6 years of increasingly responsible experience in advising managers, supervisors, and staff in personnel management, administering labor contracts, recruitment, selection and hiring processes, analyzing jobs and working with classification and compensation systems, managing employee performance, and in interpreting federal, state and local laws related to public employment and labor relations, utilizing current database programs and software.

Have ten years of increasingly responsible experience in advising managers, supervisors, and staff in personnel management, administering labor contracts, recruitment, selection and hiring processes, analyzing jobs and working with classification and compensation systems, managing employee performance, and in interpreting federal, state and local laws related to public employment and labor relations, utilizing current database programs and software.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and experienced manager who possesses outstanding communication and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be an established leader on a broad range of Human Resources issues, possess exceptional interpersonal skills, be able to multitask, and quickly build trust with diverse individuals and employee groups.

Experience in a government and union-represented environment preferred. Successful candidate will have demonstrated competencies and significant accomplishments from prior work experience.
